The Cost of Peace

What, is the cost of peace?
How much must, I release?

Feign some blindness and pretend,
That the struggle will soon end?

Give a trifle to appease?
An injection of some ease?

Maybe roll over, just give in?
In deference to a lesser sin?

How much do I need to pay?
To earn myself some peace today?

The cost, my friend, seems so high.
There’s not a day that goes by,

When I can’t give a certain due.
For if not the costs accrue.

From the future, I may borrow.
Pay much more, come tomorrow.

From defeat, this I learned.
To stand tall, to stand firm.

I’ll be wrong more than I’m right.
But if I’m right, then I must fight.

Tend toward truth over kindness.
Prefer sight over blindness.

Looking evil in the eye.
And never let it pass me by.

For it won’t stop on its own.
Without resistance, without atone.

And if not me, well then who?
This is how my toll comes due.

Today and next, never cease.
This, is the cost of peace.
