Passing In The Night

Do you despise, are you afraid,
Of the person you portray?

Are you disposed, are you obsessed,
To deny feeling something less?

Are you saddened or ashamed?
Is this why you’re so inflamed?

We lived a self-creating joy,
That somehow turned to destroy.

There is one thing I must make clear.
If you fall, I am still here.

It is the reason I’m alive.
It matters not if I survive.

I am a guard in this time.
This is a flaw; it is my crime.

It is this trait ‘pon which I fell.
That lights my fire and compels.

And for you, what do you crave?
What would you spend yourself to save?

What is the thing that lights your fire?
What would compel and bring you higher?

I wonder these aside a song.
I think of how it’s been so long.

Since the ships of our delight,
Too often pass in the night.

They cross lines ‘tween love and hate.
Lines unseen and never straight.

These are ships on different paths,
To the same port in the last.

I am lost on darkened sea.
Will your ship somehow find me?
